A marked improvement over "The Great and Secret Show". Though Clive Barker still tends to drag out his endings.

I liked this one a bit more than the first, though both were good. I think it's the distinction between fantasy and horror for me. The horror was good, but the fantasy interests me just a little bit more. Also, I really liked the addition of Joe and Phoebe to the cast of characters, and found myself really drawn to their story, which I'm sure helped.

Didn't enjoy it as much as The great and secret show, but still pretty damn great.

Definitely an improvement, as a sequel. The Great and Secret Show was good, and a huge influence on me when I read it as a teenager lol, but it was kind of confused in its message. Everville has more of a focus on stories and the value of humanity, which I mostly appreciate. These characters deserve it
Graphic: Violence and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Homophobia, Death, Domestic abuse, and Ableism
Minor: Excrement

Everville was… great—which is to say it wasn’t as fascinating and demanding of my attentions as Imajica and Weaveworld (both of which had me reading until the sun came up a few times over), but it was a great follow-up to The Great and Secret Show, and some of the same characters I loved were there waiting for their second (though likely final) act.
Somebody once told me the two “art” books could be read out of order, but there’s no way. I wouldn’t have pushed through some stretches of Everville with the same fervor had I not read it as a sequel to Great And Secret Show; also, the origins of certain characters would be screwed up… If I hadn’t already read book one, or I hadn’t already been won over—and over and over—by Barker’s other works, I’d have abandoned it.
I recommend Everville if you like speculative fiction, but only as a continuation of The Great and Secret Show; it follows very nicely.

Like most of Clive Barker's work, the supernatural or horror is just a backdrop for the characters as the story is really about them.

The second book of the art to me is just a little better formed than the first. Here is hoping Clive finishes this trilogy.

Clive Barker does an excellent job of expanding the story and world of The Great and Secret Show.
