While it is so incredible to me that Fady Joudah was able to compose and publish this series of poems from October 2023 to December 2023, this collection unfortunately did not land for me. The over-flowery language and the saturated metaphors overpowered the emotional impact of the poems, drowning the devastating colonization of Palestine under big words and attempts to appear intellectual. There were also times where I felt Joudah's political alignment were questionable, most notably the [...] poem where he implies a former romantic relationship with an Israeli and his complicated relationships regarding that relationship. All in all, this book didn't work for me, there are other Palestinian authors that I would recommend over this one, though there were some [...] pieces that were occasionally poignant.

beautiful, wiry, righteously indignant, made me think, etc — these are the types of poems that galvanize those intro action and into reading/re-reading. the type of poems I hope to keep reading forever
