Listen. I love the author and I really enjoy the series. Maybe I'm just burnt out from reading so much lately, but this one was kinda hard to get through. It felt like a bridge between the first book and the next one- it's like trying to watch the first few episodes of a well established show and trying to figure out why yours supposed to care, because no one is giving you anything.
I am looking forward to the next book, but I'm also looking forward to a few weeks of not reading anything longer than a few pages after this one.
I'm also editing my review and bumping up the rating slightly (I put it at a 3.8 so rounding) because I found homophobes in the reviews and I'm petty.

fantasy series set in a Kingdom ravaged by a strange sickness. The first book is enjoyable but feels a bit predictable in places however the next 2 books make up for it. Really enjoyed this trilogy

I CANNOT wait for the next one in the series!

A slower book in comparison to the first. I loved the addition of Fox and Violet and Rian and the events with the ship. Especially when they climb the ropes. Does get fast paced towards the ending. 3.85*

Another success!!  I did knock off one star for some issues that slowed the pace down and had me rolling me eyes every other page.

I'm not a travel sequence fan - walking, riding horses, sailing, trains - I don't like it.  It tends to slow down the pace and intrigue of the plot and the characters get into stupid spats (I also hate the miscommunication trope, it's over done y'all, time for something new). And most of the book is travel. Captain Rian Blakemore was an interesting character and a fun development, I was hoping for a little love-triangle tension, but it never really came to fruition.  Also, he was dropping some scary red flags to Tessa about our guy Carrick and I fully thought he was going to say "bitch please" at one point to her.  Harriston's POV chapters were great and furthered the plot.

During the travel portion, Tessa and Carrick also got into such a weird "fight" it didn't really make sense to me.  It seemed poorly developed to cause artificial tension between the Captain - Corrick - Tessa.  At the end, with all the big reveals I couldn't help thinking "why didn't ANY of you just say this from the start?"  The reasonings for hiding their identity or true motive was stupid.

I still really enjoyed the overall story and experience.  This ended on a gentle cliffhanger, so I cant wait to read the next one.

4.5 stars ⭐️! Wow, I loved this book so much - probably even slightly more than the first book. Firstly, Tessa and Corrick have my heart and the romance was *chefs kiss*. Once again I love the characters and character development and I’m so glad Tessa is developing into such a strong female lead. I also loved how we got to see more from Harristan’s POV in this book, both brothers have such interesting stories, The twists and turns have me desperate to read the final book in the series and I’m so sad I have to wait until next year to find out the conclusion of what happens in Kandala!

Flew through it and now have to wait an indeterminable time to read the conclusion.

Very solid sequel! I really liked seeing the characters more, especially Korrick. I can't wait to read the last book.
