I love these characters. I’m scared for book three. It took me a bit in the beginning to get into the story compared to book one, which I literally could not put down.

Defend the dawn, continues a few months after the events of the first book. The first book ended on such a high note, that this one had to start on a low note and build back up.
Some of the things I liked about the first one, the rebels, outlaws, enemies to lovers, were really secondary or non existent in this one.
It introduces new characters and continues with old ones. It’s a intresting political drama full of twists and unexpected moments. It brings up pirates and it is a bit of a road trip novel.
If you enjoyed the world building of the first one you will enjoy this one too. Although, it is very firmly a middle book, and continues to set up more plot pints for the final book. I look forward to reading that one next.

it was interesting, Tessa and Corricks moments really pissed me off and it was very obvious what was going to happen but still fun and excited for the last book in this series
i actually gave this 4.5 AND apparently there’s a 3rd book coming?! i swear i thought this was a duology.
anyways, i love this books. i love the characters. i love the dymanics at play. the only reason it’s 4.5 is because i felt the pacing was a tad off for me… but nonetheless, i can’t wait to continue with this story <3

Enjoyed this one much more than the first and made it through in two days. It seemed much more fast-paced and there was less backstory.
