Bright and cheerful illustrations and text showcase the different ways the women in one family style their hijabs. A wonderful book with bouncy text to share about the reasons the hijab is important to Muslim women.

My daughter grabbed this off the new book stack at our local library and it turned out to be an understated, but strongly feminist story about all the strong women in a little girl's life who also happen to wear a hijab.

My daughter didn't let me read the little cultural note at the end, which would have been nice to spark a better conversation when she said "I want to wear a hijab, too!" since I really only know enough about hijabs to not be an insensitive jerk to women wearing them.

Since we live in an area where hijabs are not an uncommon sight, it's great to get a better cultural understanding.

I like how the author explains simply what a hijab is and why it is worn. Different women wearing hijabs and then what they look like without it.

I love this, the illustrations are great and the pride she takes with the women in her life and how uniquely they are and wear their hijabs is such a lovely message. Really the colors are terrific, does a nice everyday slice of life style, and the characters in this book feel genuine. This book captures well the feeling of how a young child looks up to the people around them. ~Ashley

This reminds me of another book called Mommy's Khimar.

I wish a picture book like this existed when I was growing up! As a Muslim woman who wears hijab, this is so appreciated. I can't wait to read it with my daughter over and over. The illustrations are gorgeous, too. I hope we get more books like Under My Hijab.
