This is a sweet, fun story about a dog, Bob, who befriends a train guard in South Australia in 1884. Bob travels with Guard Ferry for a while but then starts to get off at different stations and eventually makes an adventurous life for himself riding the rails. Every once in a while, he visits Guard Ferry, but then sets out again on another train. Based on a true story; Bob's photo is on display at Adelaide Station, and his collar is at the National Railway Museum in Australia. Great read-aloud.

Interesting true story from Australia and beautiful illustrations, not too lengthy/wordy either, would be fine for younger listeners
