Fun. Protagonist little too similar to Joanne from C.E. Murphy's Walker Papers in some ways.

Just not that great. There were some interesting ideas behind this, but the writing was rather poor, and at times confused (the heroine asks to be taken to the nearest car lot, then is confused a page later when she is in a car lot...). I didn't expect the ending, which is why it's a two-star review, not a one-star. Not sure if I'll read any more of this series - it could get better, but sequels are rarely better than the original.

Joanne Baldwin (nice normal name for a change) is a weather warden, someone who controls the earth's forces to stop mankind getting squished like bugs by extreme weather. I quite like natural disaster films so this concept intrigued me and I've really enjoyed reading it.

The weather wardens are technically human but are gifted with the ability to manipulate the elements; air, water, earth or fire. The only other supernatural beings are Djinn (or you might know them better as genies) which are used (read enslaved) by higher ranking wardens to help amplify their power.

If you think that your life is missing books that incorporate storm chasing and genies, this series is for you!

I really liked this book. The beginning of the series. I thought that it set up everything really well to lead into further stories, yet if you ended up not liking it I thought Caine ended this particular story in a way that wrapped everything up for this story. I liked the way that Caine told the story. We were thrown into the middle of the conflict and the backstory (the story and th blground of the characters) was built up around that central conflict. We don't know what happened before the opening sequence of Jo running to Lewis's house, but we learn through Jo's past reflections. Also, I didn't feel like I figured out what was going on before Jo did. We, the reader, found out along with Jo. It's always frustrating when I;m reading a book and figure out what is going on before our hero / heroine. It's refreshing to be there with the heroine (in this case).

I liked Jo as a character. She was smart and strong, yet still vulnerable. She wasn't super-human powerful even with the Demon Mark. She's intelligent and was pretty good about being smart about her safety. She had a wit but didn't rely upon it for every comeback. I liked that no matter what trouble she was in, she didn't take the easy way out. She had opportunity to get rid of the Demon Mark, but she didn't want to risk someone else and that takes strength.

I liked David's character as well. I like how caring he was towards Jo. I liked the reassurance of him being there. I don't think that he needed to obscure himself from Jo. I didn't feel betrayed by the secret he kept from Jo, and I think in that case it made it an unnecessary secret.

The ending set up many possiblities for the next book and the series to come. Throughout the book we see the relationships established and I'm interested to see what they will lead to. This is definitely a series that I'm glad I started and can't wait to continue. I'm really glad that the series is already complete.

Great read

Definitely a good book, I can't wait to read what happens next in the series. It was a little confusing at first, but I started to get into it real quick.

Entertaining read, if a bit simple in some of its concepts.

I'm not crazy about the structure of the first half of the book, but overall the story held up remarkably well since my first reading 15+ years (!!) ago.

Not for me. Weather Wardens sounded cool and unusual.

Unfortunately I got bored with all the meteorological info.
Yes, yes I realise weather goes hand in hand with meteorology but for me all the very detailed explanations slowed the story down.

The author seems to know her weather stuff but personally the met info needed a lighter touch.

After that it just seemed to be a never ending car chase. Brrrrm brrm.

Those are my two main takeaways from this book, heavy weather and a looooong car chase. Are we there yet?
