This was such a fun adventure. I love the atmosphere of the story. I can't wait to read about more of the Guardians of the Dawn.

The writing on this one is pretty solid but the world is just not the type of fantasy i’m enjoying reading right now so I’m going to DNF. Maybe if I had read this a year ago i would have enjoyed

I liked the first half but the last half got repetitive and dragged for me.

Characters just felt inconsistent. Like from chapter to chapter it's like they forgot the people they were concerned about in the previous chapter and went on some new crusade. I just quit caring because they didn't seem to care and it was jarring.

I really wanted to like this more than I did.

The world and its myths are captivating, and I will not give it a single flaw. Magic and legends colliding, demons and political stakes in a nicely written, carefully set world.

Unfortunately, the characters are so stupid that the only quote from the whole book I will keep with me is
I'm not that stupid !
because yes, yes you are.
Or maybe this flaw is on me for misunderstanding what might be an emergency.

On several occasions, the characters have a great revelation, a danger looming around that has been revealed, but they will still take time to friendly banter, stroll around the market, and then have the audacity to be surprised when betrayal, danger, insert anything that they were warned would happen does in fact happen.

So I have to question if it's on me for thinking that the idea of death, losing a loved ones or war is maybe a bit more stressful than what the characters think.

SpoilerThe best example of how nothing is to be a problem is when the prince-in-hiding portrait is plastered all over the city and so might end his secrets getaway in like one of the 10 first chapters and is, actually, never a problem.

I will not even mention the epilogue being such a good happy ending that it once again throws any weight the events from the book could have had on the population, the world around it.

Nothing is important, but don't forget that the main character is handsome.

I am excited to have a YA book to recommend to the younger kids (middle school) as this has only 2 baby swears in it and the violence is small and the romance is PG. There is some innuendo that I do not think you could get unless you were older, and it is not dirty at all.

It was just ok. I can’t put my finger on why. Almost stopped reading a few times mainly bc I didn’t care what happened until about 75% thru. Then it got interesting. Also the fmc giggling annoyed the crap out of me. Could’ve done with less of that for sure.
