Ottoline and the Yellow Cat by Chris Riddell

I really enjoyed the book about Ottoline at school, but for some reason I didn’t like this one as much. In this one Ottoline didn’t come across as a very likeable character in my opinion. She’s mostly rude and condescending to her supposed friend Mr Munroe even when he’s trying to help her and she seems like a bit of a pompous know-it-all. The school book was the first one I read and she’s sometimes rude to Mr Munroe and ignores him but I assumed that was because she’d made a new friend in that story - I didn’t think she treated him like that in every book almost like a running joke. The mystery of the Yellow Cat was a bit obvious and not particularly interesting too.

Such a beautiful book, I love Ottoline and Mr Munroe you could spend hours just looking at the charming illustrations but equally the writing is perfect for reading aloud.

This is a whimsical, highly illustrated novel. It's perfect for really visual kids, and really fun to read.

Humorous crossover graphic/fiction selection will be sure to please the 3-6 grade crowd. There is plenty going on here, with maps, pictures, signs and text.

The story could use some more dynamics, but the illustrations are magnificent.

I really enjoyed this by Chris Riddell - the story is highly imaginative and the illustrations are detailed and funny. Also great for engaging with geography in its references to different cultures, climates and travel.
