As a Tom Fletcher and Mcfly fan who also loves spooky things and is a big kid at heart this book is perfect. Quick, lighthearted read that will make you chuckle from time to time.

I read this with my (almost) 7 year old and she absolutely loved it. It’s a funny book with lots of engaging BIG SHOUTY TEXT and funny accented characters that got her asking interesting questions about style. Beautiful pictures, too! She particularly enjoyed the author breaking the fourth wall and talking directly to the reader. I think she learned a lot about style of writing from this book!

Potential spoiler?

The book tells the story of Lucy, a girl who wakes up and finds that all the adults are gone - we follow her adventure to retrieve the adults and meet The Creakers along the way.

I loved the underlying messages of children having a clearer outlook of the world than adults, about being different but being able to exist on the same planet and about recycling and not wasting.

Tom is a very talented man, and his books just prove that even more. πŸ“šπŸ”¦πŸ’ (and so is Shane Devries - the illustrations are wonderful)

Lots of fun and the music gives the audio edition a fun theatre production feel.
If your child has fears of monsters under the bed or fears of abandonment you might want to be a little careful. If your kid loves Roald Dahl, David Walliams or similar silly, slightly scary, stories this will be a winner.

What a good mystery story! I really enjoyed the silly humour of this story and I feel like my class would love it.

I rate this 4.8/5 stars

I suppose most of you already know that I've been wanting to read Fletcher's works in a while. I finally got what I wanted. I really enjoyed reading this. I am a 22-year-old, reading a middle grade book and I can honestly say that I was borderline terrified by the idea of disappearing parents.

As a child you might find this highly enjoyable, not having parents to tell you what to do and all that boring stuff but speaking as an adult (sort of), I think it is pretty scary. It's like losing your parents at a really huge supermarket, except this time, you lose everyone in the supermarket and have the eeriness of Neil Gaiman's storylines with Roald Dahl's cheerful narration.

I especially love the wonderful illustrations by Shane Devries. They really brought the characters to life, making things simultaneously more enjoyable and scarier. Just imagine yourself doing the laugh-cry expression and you'll get the whole idea of how the book's going to make you feel (if you're an adult).

Wonderful book for the age of 8+
It's quite a chunker, but the font is big and it has a lot of illustrations, so don't be intimidated by the size!

The most fun part of it is that the author also interacts with the main character Lucy. He acts as the narrator of the story. Hilarious sometimes!
