Nice to be back after a break elsewhere.
Lots of stories. Less a mystery, more tales of the heart, black, burned, selfish and cherished.
I like it.

"There's always someone worse off than you, unless you're Cambodian." So says Dr. Siri in the seventh installment of this series. In the middle of investigating three murders involving epees as murder weapons, Dr. Siri is sent on a trip to Cambodia where he learns the truth of that statement after ending up in custody. You'll wonder how Dr. Siri will extricate himself from the custody of the Khmer Rouge as each chapter unfolds. Another enjoyable story in the Dr. Siri saga.

An interesting historical mystery. The scenes set in the streets of Burma were eye-opening.

Audio book. 4 stars. The epee mystery was very good. The Cambodian adventure was too unrelentingly bleak for my taste, and felt like part of some other story, rather than having two mysteries that dovetail or are reasonably integrated into a single tale (as usual with Dr. Siri).

The usual annoying back and forth between past and present with Dr. Siri as well as his vivid dreams and visions cavorting with the deceased.

In the midst of a murder investigation which grows from one victim to three, all women, Siri is dispatched with Civilai to Phnom Penh on a diplomatic mission. At the time no one is aware of the killing fields. Siri experiences them first hand while solving an investigation via proxy.

Entertaining with the usual twists. I’d missed reading this one when it came out in 2010. Now I’ve read them all. Wish there were more.
