One of the best YA books I have ever read, and re-read multiple times. Zach is a fascinating character.

I really liked the little snippets of Zach's past at the beginning of the chapters.
ALSO, THE ENDING?!

2 stars based on the definitions given... it was ok. Probably would have been better if I was 12.

Zach is a teenaged boy who suffers from schizophrenia. The story is told through his eyes; he is a somewhat unreliable narrator because he has trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality, especially when he doesn't take his meds on time.

And he can't get his meds because the coffee shop where he waits for his mom to pick him up is being robbed by two teens with guns.

During the course of the standoff with police, the three boys form an unlikely bond. Trueman creates a taut, suspenseful page-turner that also provides a glimpse into the mind of a schizophrenic.

Zachary, or Zack, is the main character. He suffers from schizophrenia and is antagonized incessantly by Dirtbag and rat, fictitious bullies in his head. The book is set on a robbery of a cafe conducted by two teenage boys. After the two teen boys hold the hostages in the back room, they begin to become uncertain about what to do next. The two boys are young with one being 14 and the other 17. The boys tried to rob the coffee shop because their mom has luekemia. The boys let the hostages go except for Zach who willingly stay. This is due to his inability to pick up on social cues due to his mental disorder. They try to escape through the back door and the oldest one gets shot trying to save Zach. In the end, The two boys are convicted as juvenile and Zach kills himself a week later.

I'm not quite sure what I think... Interesting and fast read, definitely, and hilarious with the emotion (or lack thereof). But I don't know. Didn't feel anything wow about it. And honestly, I'm not even sure if I read it right. This book is confusing. Much like I imagine Zach feels.

Read like an after-school special about schizophrenia.
