I was totally suckerpunched by this one!
This suspenseful, funny and clever page-turner grabs you from the throat and never lets go; the plot is crafted in a way that will leave you completely dumbfounded in the end.
The First One You Expect is about an independent horror film maker who meets a seemingly inoffensive young woman who will change his life in a way you never expect.
Adam Cesare keeps his novella beautifully paced from start to finish, and weaves very compelling characters that makes the reading experience a thrill ride.

Ah easy and exciting read to finish out my goal, although I wish it was longer because this is one of my new faves from Cesare.

Anxiety inducing and funny. Would like to see more of what Anna was up to.

I greatly enjoyed reading this until I got to the end and Cesare seemed to have run out of pages. The ending was so abrupt I wondered if my Kindle had somehow glitched. I also feel like the theme was not quite realized seeing as Tony wasn't exactly blameless in everything, and even had incredibly violent thoughts that seemed to fight in the direction it was aiming for. Overall I enjoyed this quick read, but wish it could have at least nailed that landing more.

It's not bad, but you can definitely see how much Cesare has grown as a writer in his newer books.

A great story exploring the abyss that can occur when someone gets too involved with a different persona. As someone who's a big fan of low budget horror I loved that the setting was in that kind of situation dealing with those kinds of people. The inclusion of Kickstarter was cool as well, a pop-culture reference causing horrific events is always a plus for me as its something that hasn't been done too often. I'll admit however that I wish this were a full length novel cause I feel that the filming of the rest of the movie would be quite interesting. Good stuff though.
