I had a hard time getting into this book. I'm not sure, as I like Ms. Harrington's writing and have read her before. I also liked both the hero (Robert) and the heroine (Mariah). But the first half of the book was very slow going for me. I suspect this had something to do with the enemies-to-lovers trope, which is not one of my favorites. Given the enmity between the characters at the beginning, I think it was hard for me to get buy their blossoming romance. However, I found the last half of the book very enjoyable and even moving at times, particularly when Robert and Mariah share their grief over losing their parents. Perhaps the problem in the first half was the pacing.

I really want to know more about Whitby--is he gay? Is he in love with Mariah's sister or even Mrs. Smith? I'm hoping he will get his own book; I hope Mariah's sister does as well.

I bought this book mainly because it has an orange spine (I shelve my books in colour order and my historical romance section has a distinct lack of orange) and was excited to try a new author. I didn't love the book. I barely liked the book. I almost didn't finish the book. It took too long to get interesting and even once it got going it was boring, predictable and bland. The shipping owner father was awful, the other characters felt flat... It does look pretty on my rainbow shelves though.

Humor, adversaries, healing from grief, business, a season, and love all culminate in what is a lovely story. I enjoyed Robert and Mariah’s story immensely. They were wonderful adversaries to lovers. I found myself chuckling at some of the antics in the first half of the story, which was a delight after reading some darker stories and needing the levity in this story.

Enjoyable but forgettable. If your following the series, the formula is kinda the same.

I really liked it enough to say the real reason it’s not 5 is because I could’ve had more. I liked the couple, Robert and Mariah, so much that I wanted to go to more things with them and would’ve enjoyed a few more scenes.
