I love history and graphic novels but I just didn’t enjoy this. I’m not sure why.

I had to force myself onward after the first few pages and then found myself wanting to read sequels by the end. It’s an odd experience to rate as the author definitely took a bit to find his footing. Also, Henry Knox was so much more interesting than our protagonist and I found much of the humor to be utterly obnoxious rather than at all funny (but I can think of a handful of students who will find it hilarious). So... not for me, but there’s definitely an audience.

Oh gosh wow. This was a lot more hilarious and educational that I gave it credit for initially going into it. There was a lot of humor and a clever use of Nathan Hale as a storyteller and guide through the Revolutionary War, and his unlikely companions to it are perfect foils and great ways to expound upon select historical elements that may fluster younger children reading. I loved it, absolutely, and I need the next volume of this series right away.

A quirky and entertaining way to present some exciting history. I can easily suggest this to older J readers looking for a comic that their elders won't dismiss as "not a real book".

Loved this fun, fresh take on the American Revolution- a topic I never thought I'd read about in a graphic novel! I have some students who are really into history, war, and graphic novels, and they are going to go crazy for this accessible, well-researched book!
My favorite is that the author even presents his bibliography & lists instances he used artistic license in a funny, graphic format. So much cleverness in these covers. Can't wait to read the next one.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm loving this new trend of nonfiction graphic novels. I think that it will really help get more students reading nonfiction.
Nathan Hale, the author illustrator who was born in 1976, tells us the story of Nathan Hale, the American Revolutionary spy who died in 1776, in a fun, humorous yet informative way in this new graphic novel. What makes this informational graphic novel the most unique, I believe, is its format. It is set up as a conversation between Hale, the hangman and a British officer who has taken Hale to be executed. Hale is our narrator and the hangman and officer add comments and are quite hilarious. This story is more than just a biography of Hale, it really goes through much of the early American Revolution as it follows Hale's career. Also, at the end of the GN, there is a mini-tale about Crispus Attucks, one of the men who died at the Boston Massacre, which was a nice addition.
Overall, I liked how it was drawn and written. It'll be one I definitely will want for my classroom.
