I read this book when I was in middle school and it’s one that has stuck with me since. I wanted to read it again as an adult to see if I still liked it. I love the way it’s written with the ending sort of spread out throughout the book. I have a love hate relationship with how the characters actions make me feel lol I love that the book makes me not want to stop reading but hate that the kids keep making stupid decision.

I can understand the people who rated this book four or five stars. The mystery was alluring and chilling, and the use of character quotes from the future, after the main event, at the start of each chapter was probably the thing that kept me reading - I really wanted to see what it was all leading up to. The characters themselves, though, weren't all that likeable. There was something a little forced, a little pompous, about the narrator, and how pigeon-holed the other characters seemed to be. And I don't know. The main antagonist, Rob, just seemed a bit too much to be believable.
But, that said, I'm not the biggest fan of horror or thriller novels, but those who are might enjoy this more than me.

This wasn’t great, but I was interested enough to continue listening so I could find out exactly what happened.

3.5 stars.

This is one of the fastest books I have ever read. I devoured it in about an hour. It has such an incredibly slow build up of impending doom that I couldn't put it down.

Unfortunately the build up was actually better than the explosion. The ending left a fair bit to be desired but the rest of the book mostly made up for it.

Good, quick brain scrub. Just what I needed.

It was good, a nice idea to it but it was still kind of confusing. I still don't understand why Young is the only one who ended up in jail or why he did in the first place!

Good example of the flaws in the justice system, got a little confused at the end, did Young kill him or was he framed? One thing this book never fails is to remind that life is cruel and unfair.

I have wanted to read this book for a long time because Giles is such a great author and the premise of this book is very interesting. It was interesting. Young's influential friend, Rob, decides to make the "school's whipping boy," Simon Glass, into a popular kid. From the beginning, the reader knows that the boys end of killing Simon. The way the book is formatted, the reader is not left with many surprises, but it was still an engaging read.

Interesting book! Told from one narrator's perspective, but the beginning of each chapter gives a documented account from other people on the crime committed. Gail Giles is wonderful at creating round characters one can relate to.

I listened to this on audio. I loved this book. It's raw and honest though hard to stomach at times. Complex and well developed characters.
