Thoroughly enjoyed this inaugural outing in a new series from the author of the Gingerbread Hag cozy mysteries. Set in the same small town as Hedy's fantastical bakery/supernatural B&B from those books, this adventure follows Eumenclaw's resident coven as they prepare to host an annual gathering of witches. We are quickly introduced (or in some cases re-introduced if you've read the bakery series) to our cast of characters, and then we are off to the races as mysterious happenings quickly start taking over the festive preparations. The close relationships among the witches are tested as loyalties are torn and events spiral out of control, all leading up to a shocking reversal of fortune for one of our protagonists. You don't need to have read the Gingerbread Hag novels to enjoy this new series, but they are also delightful books that add some additional depth to the story here. I'm a huge cozy mystery and a huge supernatural tale fan, so when I find a series that combines both loves in one, I am always a very happy reader. The ending of this one left me impatient for the next in the series. Can't wait to see what happens next!
