Absolutely stunning collection. Every poem belongs, every poem teaches you how to read every other poem.

The rhythm is rhythmical, every now and then it’s not. The imagery can be stunning then in other places it can become a little less.

Like a lot of poetry, I didn’t understand much of this, I’m always a little frustrated by that. But I know the content of the poetry isn’t usually meant to be straightforward; the doctrines of poems aren’t found in propositions, they’re found in the expressions, in the feelings, in the mosaic of words. Still, I always feel a little less intelligent after reading most poetry; maybe it’s just that most poets are smarter than me? Reading poetry is humbling. I think that’s a good thing. Probably especially for me.

I think I can spy some themes in these words though: intimacy, childbirth, women, dynamics of power, war, suffering, grief, home, religion, death, life in many of its aspects. I enjoy the use of Danté’s ~Inferno~, even if I haven’t read that yet :)
