The set up and conclusion were fun but the middle was sooo weak. And I was expecting this to be a real vampire story which was a bit of a bummer.

Trying to be better about not making myself finish books I'm not enjoying.  It wasn't Bad(tm), just wasn't doing anything for me and felt like a surface level cishet ww take on Dracula so far.

I only wish that the ending and reveal was fleshed out more instead of being 1-2 pages.

I received this book from TBR and Beyond Tours and the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

So I was actually part of the tour, but sadly while I did like the book.. I had some issues with it and so I am sharing it outside of the tour 14 days later (which was the soonest I had place on my blog). Because I just don’t think it is classy to be negative about a book on a tour stop. Those times are supposed to be filled with joy and happy feelings.

I breezed through this book pretty fast because I just needed to know what was going on. The twist was interesting, but I wish there would have been a few more connections and clues leading to that outcome, it happens very abruptly.
Not sure I like stories where the narrator is like lol actually I lied and then the book is over…

wait what the fuck.
i was NOT prepared for that twist at the end i definitely should have seen it coming but i absolutely did not. felt like maybe there should have been more clues towards that ending but when she’s
straight up lying the whole time
there’s not really a way to distinguish the truth for yourself.
characters were a little one dimensional and i had trouble remembering who was who but overall was a strong thriller and mystery!
read all in one day and i was definitely into it especially once the plot started to pick up when they got to the castle.

This book is fine, but it relies to heavily on censored information to create suspense.
And I’m not very much a fan of books that don’t allow you to see the twist coming. I like to be able to guess the ending if I look really hard. “Secretly evil narrator” is becoming one of my least favorite tropes, it would be more believable if this was not in first person

I will give this that it is a fast read. Unfortunately, the marketing was all wrong and makes you think that there are paranormal happenings. The amount of time used for set-up would have been so helpful...if I had known what I had actually signed up for. Bummer.

I received an ecopy of this book through Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own
