Maybe if I had read the first one this would have helped me enjoy this better? It definitely reads as someone who needs an intro to adult romance novels but to me, I was… not invested enough. The diversity was brilliant and I liked the friend group Nikole embraced herself with but that was it.

1.75 purely for the diverse cast
you ever read a book and you realize that the characters are better off not being together? yeah.. this is it. the book was utterly boring. the author wrote carlos in a way that made him grate on my nerves in special a genderflip of NLOG. don’t tell his sister that he likes rosé but not because it’s a girly drink but because his sister can’t be right. also he bought his sister a tool kit for her apartment and while putting a bookcase together, THAT SHE DIDNT ASK FOR, was like “hmm her screwdriver sucks… i should get her an electric one for christmas.” DOES SHE EVEN USE IT??? ugh i just couldn’t with carlos… nik seemed immature and didn’t really learn anything by the end of the book about growing and being able to trust your emotions. i mean carlos was immature too he fucking stormed out during a fight. they didn’t seem to grow by the end of the book and i feel like they would be the type of couple that would fight all the time.

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory is a cute, lighthearted romance novel that features two people who were absolutely not looking for love yet find it anyway.  In it we meet Nik on one of the most publicly weird days of her life, as she rejects a wedding proposal on the jumbotron in Dodger stadium.  But before you go judging her, the person who proposed to her didn’t even spell her name correctly and you won’t be rooting for him.  You know who you will be rooting for?  Carlos.  He and his sister meet her on the same day of her fateful proposal, and I won’t say more so you can experience the witty scene.

I’ve been making my way through the Jasmine Guillory books, whenever I want something fun and flirty. This is number 2 in the series, and you truly can read them in any order because while there are nods to characters in each book you don’t lose any key plot points by jumping around.

In terms of heat factory, this one is tame.  The focus is on the character development and witty banter, which is well done.  Nik has a great friend group, Carlos has a great family and is friends with the couple from the first book, and all together it’s an entertaining circle of people around them that adds to their stories.

There is some personal growth that each person needs to address as they couple up, however it’s not too deep.  This book is a great choice if you are looking for a beach read or easy page-turner, and you want to keep the spice level low.

*Update 5/7/23*
Now that I’m on book 6 (and final book) of the series, this is so far still my number 1! A year after finishing this, I’m STILL thinking about Carlos and how much I loved him 💜

*Original*
This was my second book from Guillory and she continues to make me fall in love!

Carlos was my fave in The Wedding Date so I'm happy to see him in his own story.
He only gets more attractive in this book! I loved Nik and all of the side characters as well. Guillory does a wonderful job bringing each character to life and making the side characters more than just a listening ear to our MCs! The character development is also very well done.

The writing style makes this a quick, easy read that immerses me in the novel. I laughed out loud and cried a little throughout the book. Overall a fantastic read and Guillory has definitely become one of my favorite romance authors! I can't wait to continue the rest of the series.
