Williams’ art is so vivid and mythical. It reinforces your place in the world while opening you up to the glory you could make of life.

There are few visual artists that truly capture my attention through the beauty of their work. Out of those, only a handful move me in ways that I can’t fully express in words. Erica Williams is one of those artists. This book is a beautiful collection of her art from the beginning of her career until 2020. And it is one of my most precious possessions, as her style fits pretty well with many of the things I love.

If I could describe Williams’ art in a few words, it would be vibrant, potent, and mysterious. Her flexibility to master both dark and colorful settings is something few are capable of. The linework in these art pieces is precise and impactful down to the finest details. The color palettes Williams uses are moody yet rich, harnessing styles that few artists can.

I really enjoy the themes in her work. Especially the darker topics expressed. From animals and nature to people and sexuality, every painting captures a different feeling expressed fantastically. As she describes in the book’s insight section, the balance between life and death, calm and chaos that is expressed in her works is beautiful. I especially enjoy the way she uses magical realism and fantasy to create scenes that truly transport me to another world.

The section in the end made me realize that besides being a great visual artist, Williams is also a fantastic writer. The way she explains her process and philosophy surrounding her art and life is beautiful and inspiring. In general, I think every aspect of Ritual is arranged to perfection. Down to the high-quality materials used in the book’s pages and cover, the design of the fonts, and of course, the quality of the art itself.

I was impressed with the sheer amount of never-before-released art in this book. There are incredible pieces that, to my knowledge, Williams has never posted before. This makes this book unique in a way, making me happy that I backed it when it was only an idea on Kickstarter. It was worth every penny, and I hope another book is released at some point in the future.

Final Score: 95/100
