Toughhhhh read. Equal parts horrifying, disturbing, and infuriating the degree of which I should’ve expected from the subject matter but grossly underestimated.

Really excellent novel. Like a modern day Lolita but actually good (sorry Nabokov fans). Takes a deep dive into the murky depths of adults who have consenting relationships with teenagers, that almost-paeodophiloa-but-not-quite age. Its uncomfortable, unflinching portrayal of grooming and manipulation, followed by 'consent' is brilliant. It made me think so much more than Lolita did, I felt like I really understood where Vanessa was coming from and how she got there. It made my skin crawl too many times to count, genuinely repulsive, but rightly so. 4.7 stars. That's right, I went .7, sue me.
