I would guess that I'm rating this 75% on nostalgia and 25% on my current reading. I haven't read this since...junior high, I think, or maybe early high school. I remember devouring the series, though I think that was in part because they are (still) very easy to devour. I definitely didn't remember how unfortunate the female roles are in it. Or perhaps I should say that in the singular, which is part of the problem.

I've never read anything from this author before so I had no idea what to expect with Another Fine Myth. It's a lot of fun and quite funny. I wish I was able to read this back when it was brand new because I'm sure it really would have been something else way back then. It's a short read and while for the most part the sense of humor worked for me there are some moments that just made it drag on for me. I think I'll have to continue this series - I might have to see it I can get my hands on the audiobook editions.

I thought it was fine. I liked Aahz but Skeeve was pretty annoying. I also thought the climax could have been bigger but it was also fine.

I read this book when I was stuck in the medical barracks when I was getting discharged from the Air Force and it is the only book that has stuck with me since reading Percy Jackson and has even inspired me to read again as an adult because of how unique some of the ideas in the series were. Even I will admit the running gags can become beat a dead horse but it had a beautiful childlike wonder charm to it that helped me stay sane during those troubling months and has even formed how I view and create fantasy today.
