The writing style was different than what I'm used to; choppy, hard to get lost in. The pacing in the first part of the book was so different, it felt like a lazy explanation of events to get to the main plot. However, I did get to a place in the book where I was very intrigued and wanted to find out what happened and as I'm rating this year based off vibes... it's gets some serious points for the occasional creep vibe and mid-plot shenanigans. BUT... the ending felt lackluster.

Scary and fun with a nice through line around female friendships.

I loved that it was horror and yet also a realistic depiction of friendship among women. I thought the dialogue was extremely believable and appreciated the (gallows) humor the narrator often utilized. I don’t really get the complaints about the paranormal twist since I thought it was clear that was where it was going all along. The setting was absolutely made for a movie - I’m dying to see this crazy hotel (though maybe not Julie...).
