[b:Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire|6|Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4)|J.K. Rowling|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1292440310s/6.jpg|3046572] proved to be an excellent choice for a non-horror Halloween read. In it, [a:J.K. Rowling|1077326|J.K. Rowling|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1310407611p2/1077326.jpg] sharply continues her addition of darkness to the series. We see Harry, Hermione, Ron and the rest of the gang returning to Hogwart's for yet another year. As usual, there are also dark deeds going on, but the focus this year is on the Triwizard Tournament. Despite rules requiring contestants to be 17, Harry naturally ends up in the mix. Adventures ensue. Naturally, there is a giant spider. Why is there always a giant bloody spider? *grumbles* In spite of that, the book is excellent. Also, there is a merciful lack of Quidditch game play by plays.

One down, two more left. Most of what I wrote on the third book applies here as well. The language is rather clunky and most of the "translations" are shamefully boring katakana abominations, but there's a handful of cleverness scattered among the pages too (although it doesn't come anywhere near the perfection of the Finnish translation). There are surprisingly many blunders that make it clear the translator missed the point of the original sentence or idiom. In the end, it's still Harry Potter and reading it in Japanese provides a pleasant way to keep up (and improve) my language skills.

And I only feel worse for the suffering of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. Certainly Slytherin deserves anything coming their way...?
