Reading this while reading Every Heart a Doorway and Down Among the Sticks and Bones was a strange experience. It made me question my thoughts about Alice in Wonderland and, honestly, made me enjoy it a little less. Mostly because the nonsense wasn't always the good kind of nonsense, sometimes it was quite annoying to read through. There are obviously still parts I love of Alice in Wonderland but Through the Looking Glass has always been my favorite of Alice's adventures. I definitely enjoy the movie a lot more, I think it presents the nonsense of Wonderland in a more fun manner. It made the nonsense silly instead of annoying.
Finding that I didn't enjoy this as much as a huge disappointment because this used to be one of my favorites. I still love the movie and most of the illustrated editions of this book because how could I not? That being said, the Wayward Children series has definitely given me higher standards for what should happen when a child wanders through a doorway they weren't supposed to find.
