An easy, fast paced read! I'm definitely becoming more invested in this series. The world building is simple but still fantastic. Characters are a bit predictable but the plot twists in this book made it imlossible to put down. Looking forward to read pt 3!

The Coveted is book 2 in The Unearthly series.

Gabriella is now working for the Politia. She is asked to help with the investigation into the murders that are happening near Peel Academy.

She is asked to get back in touch with her coven, especially Andre, who she has tried to avoid since the ending of The Unearthly.

As vampires are the main suspect for the murders, they need to find the real culprit before the truce between the Politia and vampires is destroyed.

While investigating the murders the devil is still after Gabriella and wants her to willingly give him her soul and become his consort.

Whenever she sleeps, she dreams and starts getting visits from incubus demons who say they wanted to meet the devils consort.

Everything leads to a confrontation on Samhain, the night when doors between worlds thin.

I am loving this series. I hope these books get a reprint with new covers as I have to say I hate the covers, but don't let them put you off. This is one time when I can honestly say, don't judge a book by its cover.

I sacrificed my 2-3 AM to read the first half of this book. I partly blame my dog, who decided she would sleep right across my legs, waking me up. And I blame the ending of The Unearthly, because how am I supposed to sleep right after that? I had to jump right into this one.

Anyway... I liked this better than the first book. It has more mystery, is spookier, and plays well into the uncanny qualities of this universe. I was thoroughly spooked during Gabrielle and Andre's cemetery excursion.

I would've loved a more in-depth look into the other supernaturals, particularly the fates and doppelgangers. Perhaps next book? Or another spin-off series?

Off to read the third book!

Even though I didn't love the first one, as a fan of Laura Thalassa with an inability to leave a series, I continued.

Not loving the triangle of Gabrielle, Andre, and Lucifer. Oliver is just too much. Politica just felt forced. This could have been cut down along with book 1 and put together.

My Rating System:
5 ★ Masterfully created work of art with many strong qualities. Will re-read. Cannot imagine my life without it. Devastated it is over.
4 ★ Solid Work. Enjoyed from beginning to end.
3 ★ Decent with poor execution in some manner. Neutral.
2 ★ Wasn't good but not completely bad. Only 1 or 2 redeeming qualities
1 ★ DNF and/or no redeeming qualities

3.75 overall.

I’m so obsessed with laura’s writing it has got to the point that I don’t even care what I’m reading
but this book was just as good as book one even though it did feel a little more fillery.
I also really like how andre and gabrielle haven’t jumped into anything yet. it’s a slow burn I am rooting for.

I really enjoyed the story with the devil. I did predict a lot of it but it was still entertaining. The love story is semi-annoying.

I'm not really feeling this book. The main character, Gabriella is less annoying for sure, but it seems like she's also lost that edge that she have, she's softer now, crying a lot. Well, it seems like all of the characters are softer compared to the first book. On the other hand, Andre, doesn't seem like he got the wisdom of being 700 years-old, he just seems like a teenage boy.

I don't think I'm going to continue with the series.

The Coveted by [a:Laura Thalassa|7152490|Laura Thalassa|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1372456585p2/7152490.jpg] is book two of the Unearthly series and picks up about one month after book one left off. Gabrielle is now working for the Politia and hasn't spoken to Andre since the night his mansion burned. After a witch is killed and drained of her blood, all fingers are pointing to the vampires. It's up to Gabrielle to put her problems aside and work with Andre to solve the case before more people die and the truce between vampires and the supernatural community dissolves.
The dead were not so scary. The living were the ones you had to watch out for. -Gabrielle
Again I love these characters. Gabrielle is really starting to rely on her instincts and learn to use her gifts as a vampire and siren in this installment. Not only that but she confronts her own demons and faces Andre. Oh Andre, how I love thee!!! This character makes a great protagonist and antagonist all at the same time. Inherently he is evil, he's a vampire. However now that he has met his soulmate, he is starting to have human feelings again and it makes him very adorable! The man in the suit is back and haunting Gabrielle even more, again he is a perfect villain. Super creepy and gives me goosebumps! Leanne, Oliver, and Caleb are also back and I love the humor and irony they bring to the main character's life. It gives the book a good balance.
There were so many more things I'd rather be doing than this, such as getting my wisdom teeth pulled without local anesthetic, streaking through Peel Castle during a school day, going in for a pelvic examination with a male doctor. Yeah, I was that uninterested in this demonstration. -Gabrielle
The twists and turns in this book left me reeling! I loved the whole murder mystery tied into the All Hallows Eve festival. It made for a page-turning read. Also there was no way I could've predicted this ending. I was left hopelessly clueless until the last page and begging for more! I really can't wait to see just where the author takes this series. It's definitely going to be good!
