“Not This Thursday” by Wayne Lemmons is a day in the life of “Sam Spade want-to-be” detective Mason Thursday, but it is not a traditional detective story in any way, shape or form. It is more like an extra-long Saturday Night Live sketch, and you will laugh all the way through.
Mason Thursday has retrograde amnesia and can’t remember anything from yesterday or before. If that weren’t funny enough, he has a little posse of friends (or enemies as the situation dictates) who accompany him through the day, sometimes helping, sometimes not.
The story is one absurd gag after another as the Thursday and his little crew try to resolve a case so Thursday can get paid and no one will get killed.
The situation is hilarious, the characters are absurd, and the action is non-stop slapstick. You will love it. Since this is “book 1” there will be more laughs to come, as long as the author does not forget he’s supposed to write them.
