"The story is in my root's skin. Above the soil, you can see the scars of these many trespasses, where blades and rough hands in violence touched my sanctified being."

Of the four that I have read so far, this is the most speculative fiction of the short stories I've read by Sonia Sulaiman. It features a queer platonic relationship between a mandrake and a tree.
