A thought-provoking, unsettling read.
The story skillfully portrays the narrator's actions as driven by a misguided sense of love, ultimately leading to selfish and creepy behavior. The protagonist becomes the villain in her own way, the reader is forced to confront the unsettling realization that Claire remains unaware of the impossibility of obtaining true consent from the mutilated slave. The conclusion of the story was really cold-hearted.
