i love being able to dive into media through different lenses, and this book really did a good job of that for me. i wish it was more in depth though, and i felt like there was a lot more ground to cover than what was talked about. id love to see a follow up of this book with the newer seasons of the show.

I just finished my copy that I won through a Goodreads giveaway and was very satisfied. Unlike most pop psychology books that have been on the market, this collection of essays are individually written by qualified experts in the field and complete with references.
The range of topics is enjoyable and focus on everything from whether or not The Governor is a psychopath to roles that individuals take on in an apocalyptic setting.
What makes this book stand out is that not only is it written in layman's terms without dumbing down the content, but that it seamlessly blends aspects from all Walking Dead media (comics, tv and video game).

This book was really interesting, loved looking at the characters and situations from a psychological view point.

This is not a book for psychology professionals. I'm not sure who, in their right mind, would think a psychological analysis of The Walking Dead would honestly be a high brow scientific book, but that's obviously not what you're going to get from this book.
That said, I enjoyed it. I hadn't watched much of The Walking Dead before this, but I did start watching after reading this because it intrigued me. I was disappointed that the idea of turning into a zombie wasn't much covered, as I'd hoped to find someone breaking down the process or asking what it might be like to be a zombie. This is focused on the survivors and most essays are enjoyable. The writing style, while written by those knowledgeable in their fields, does end up being simplistic and easily skimmable.
There are a few essays that left me rolling my eyes, especially those dealing with psychopathy, and another dealing with a 'hero arc' for Daryl.
Overall, if you can find it cheap I think it's an enjoyable read. If you're someone with a bit of knowledge in psychology or understand some jargon you will get the most out of it. Fans of the Walking Dead who want to see analysis of the characters you will like it.

Interesting read, but many of the essays were very basic in both tone and psych concepts. Granted, I only took two psych classes, but the essays could have easily been written by a Psych 101 student or someone who actively enjoys analyzing literary characters (i.e. me, TWD fans, and Yvette Nicole Brown).
