This is such a solid historical fiction. Maggie O’Farrell is just so damn good at what she does. Lucrezia is a mystery and yet has an intimate closeness with the reader. Also stellar ending, I liked the reimagining.

Sonunun ne olacağını bile bile her adımda ölüme yaklaşan bir kadının hikayesini okumak aşırı zor. Özellikle de daha 16 yaşında, gençliğinin baharındaysa…

This book took me a while to get fully involved in. The beginning that switched between past and present was very interesting to me, and had me flying through the pages, but the middle of the book, where the disparity between past and present was smaller, was difficult for me to dig through. I rated this 4 stars because of the last 50 pages though. I mean WOW were they something. The gossip, the drama, the explanations for everyones attitudes and energy, the wit of Lucrezia, the companionship of her and Emilia- just EVERYTHING had me reading straight through my lunch break and into my shift! The ending was everything I needed, and was open enough to interpretation that I was able to smile as I finished. She got what she wanted at the end.
