uplifting and lighthearted

This book is cute mix of all my favorite things hockey, romance and being Jewish. I never thought of the issues a Jewish hockey player would face. I love the voice this book has about being Jewish and how important our culture is. The heart in this book is felt on every page, This is what I love about this author. Totally recommend this book.

I couldn’t have been more thrilled to receive an ARC of B’Nai Mitzvah Mistake, the first book in Stacey Agdern’s new series, Last Girls Standing.

By now, you all know how much I adore Agdern’s novela. She has built a world that I am happy to lose myself in. A world of Jewish joy through love, food, history, and tikkun olam. The Last Girls Standing series dwells in this world and I can already tell this series continues to carry this torch even more brilliantly.

This first book of the series focuses on Judith and Asher, although we become familiar with a new group of people (and encounter some beloved past characters!). The characters we meet in B’nai Mitzvah Mistake are likable and developed enough to get us hooked on the stories to come. I must say, I think my favorite story is going to be Livy’s, I really liked her personality and the bit of her story we are privy to. Is she going to fall for Lev? I can’t wait to find out!

Judith and Ash are preparing for their adult bat/bar mitzvah and are unfortunately paired on the same day. There is some history between the two, and it is not good. However, throughout this spiritual journey they truly get to k ow each other and go from enemies to lovers. It’s a moving backdrop to a sweet romance.

Pick it up tomorrow, on its release day, or preorder a copy now! I already preordered my print copy and can’t wait to hold its ink-and-paper-scented pages in my hands!

This book follows Judith and Ash as they attend lessons to prepare for their B’Nai Mitzvah. Judith dislikes Ash and can’t really stand him after a situation that happened in the past related to her sister. As they take lessons together and Judith gets to know ash more she starts to understand him better and a relationship ensues. I thought this was a cute read with great character development. I liked the romance but which there had been more development with the romance. Overall an okay read that left me wanting a little more with the romance.

Themes:
- Hockey romance
- Jewish main characters
- Enemies to lovers
- No spice

Fun Jewish hockey-adjacent romance dealing with forgiveness and how to move on.
