Introducing Gorgeous Millie is the story of a young girl named Millie that wakes up the day before her birthday party. The story takes Millie and her mom to various stores to purchase cupcakes, decorations and a stuffed bunny. Millie’s goal is to make the party as “gorgeous” as possible.

I really enjoy the theme of gorgeousness in the state of mind of children. As I am someone that was bullied and criticized for different things, I relate well to this story. There is no doubt that bullying shapes people into who they are. I welcomed those around me, after I had experienced such disrespect. However, some children can’t adapt in such a way and this book is definitely something that aims to show how you can help these children.

Children who are bullied on a daily basis every day or even occasionally can have a great deal of problems later on in life, such as self esteem issues. Allison Mertz and Barbara Ruth have done a good job in bringing this to light.

Another element that I very much enjoyed about this book is artist Emily Rose Hall's artwork. As soon as I started turning each page, this is what quickly caught my attention. Crafted in a a very simple style it nonetheless works so well, especially for this story.

I did find the writing could be have been adjusted to target its intended age group. Looking at Millie's appearance you would feel that the book is intended for a younger age group, yet the writing doesn't seem to bear this out.

Something that I would modify is less of a change and more of an idea for future stories about Millie.

The way to show a child that they are splendid or what they do is brilliant, can vary a lot. I think that it would be a good idea to bring Millie into a story that showed her doing something great for someone else. It would be a positive lesson for children to be caring toward others and you will very much be a gorgeous person.

Overall, I think this is a great book to share with your children. They will witness some great art and learn a wonderful lesson to pass on. Of course, the book is not perfect. Perfect is something people strive for, but it’s a very unrealistic goal. However, people and this book are delightful. I suggest that you pick up a copy ofIntroducing Gorgeous Millie very soon and give it a read.
