I feel like it's not very often the second book in a trilogy or a series is better than the first, but in my opinion Hollow City was so much better than Miss Peregrine (Which I didn't think was possible!) I loved this book and it left me wanting so much more (in a good way). I can't wait to read Library of Souls and see how this all ends. Ransom Riggs, you sly devil. You have skills, my friend. 5 out of 5 stars.

*spoilers*

Do you ever realize that you should've seen something coming, but you were so excited for something good to happen that, in the end, you didn't see it coming? That is what happened to me. And I am pained.

As much as I adored this book, I need to give it a lower rating just for pacing. The entire book was all for one thing, which then left a cliffhanger. The other things they did didn't seem to have much affect on the plot, either. They were nice stories, though.

I also love how at one point Millard got all deep and realistic about how time traveling works, and how people will inevitably die because history will heal itself. Then Enoch's just like, "That's why you can't kill baby Hitler!" Good job, my friends.

I still can't wait to read the next book.

After feeling a little let down by Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, this sequel surprised me in all possible ways. Hollow City is far better than its predecessor and it gave the reader everything the first book lacked: character depth, backstories, insights into the world of the peculiars and a more fast-paced plot.

Finally I was able to make some sense of the characters and their actions and I actually grew found of them. But as far as the love story between Emma and Jacob is concerned, I still feel like it is needless. Jacob claims that he has stick with the peculiars due to his love for Emma… Why is love always presented as more important/stronger than friendship? Argh

Another thing I enjoyed was the variety of locations visited by the peculiars. I know some people would say they only seemed to be running around from one place to another, but I say this allowed the storyline to progress and we were able to know more about the peculiardom, which I found fascinating.

All in all, I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a follow-up so much more than its predecessor. Hollow City was really amazing and this time the photographs didn’t feel so out of place!

This is the sequel to Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which I really really loved, but this one just wasn’t as good. Maybe it was because I hadn’t read the first one in so long that I’d forgotten some details, but I had a lot of trouble getting into the story. Overall, though, I would definitely say that if you liked Miss Peregrine’s this one is worth reading.

This book picks up where the last one left off; with the children all crammed into boats, and trying to cross the water to safety. After some trouble, they finally manage to get to land, but almost immediately have to run from the wights/soldiers that are hunting them. They find another loop, a menagerie, and meet some other peculiars who tell them that only another ymbryne can help Miss Peregrine, unfortunately, they have to go to London to find another ymbryne, so off they go. Along the way they meet more peculiars, run into a few hollows, and essentially just have a lot of trouble getting to London. Once there they do manage to find the ymbryne, Ms. Wren, and she assures them that she can help Miss Peregine. Naturally things aren’t that simple, and nothing turns out the way the children were expecting. Also, there was a nice setup for the third book in the series.

Despite my vague disappointment with this book, I did actually end up enjoying it (the pictures were fantastic, as expected) and I’ll almost definitely read the third one when it comes out.
