I was so impressed with this novella! The steampunk/gaslamp world Draven created was unique & vibrant. I wish this had been a full length novel or series of novellas just to keep spending time here.

I did like the characters a lot as well & the love story of the main two 🥹.

Very glad I picked this up, and now I need to find more books in this genre.

Always a 5 star for Grace Draven. She writes the most charming and romantic and delightful and luscious fantasy romances ever.

Can a book be short and light but still enamour you with untold worlds and enthralling tales? This book appears to satiate my ever-growing demands on the written word. I was reading three books of different genres and nothing seemed to fully capture my imagination until I chanced upon this short read that threatened to awaken my thirst for imagery.
I loved the premise, the simple yet interesting world vaguely mentioned in the 100-odd pages. A slew of characters with potential, but disappointed I was, for it was over too soon. I need to know more about this story with multiple worlds, saved by barriers threatening to give away, battles fought on flying ships and strange creatures- subjects of scientific necromancy. I cannot castigate the prime focus on the romance for it is indeed deemed one, yet I yearn to learn more about the rest of the world. Perhaps I could be enlightened in the subsequent books. But did I wish that Nathaniel and his fierce lover would take on a more promising adventure.

P.S. - I think the title is gaslighting us, we do not travel to hell or meet with Hades or even take his name.

I thought this book was such a fun read but I think I would have enjoyed it as a full on novel with more depth because there was so much potential for this world building

A short read that I picked up on a whim and ended up not regretting at all.

Gaslight Hades starts out with Lenore, a young woman who has just lost her beloved father and is in the middle of overseeing his burial. In this world, graverobbers are a very real threat but for much more nefarious reasons and Lenore is determined to ensure the safety of her father’s remains. Then she meets a Guardian, a Bonekeeper – one of seven mysterious and terrifying beings who were victims of horrific tortures that resulted in their unnatural looks and abilities, and who now choose to use said abilities to guard graves to prevent anyone else from suffering a similar fate. It is because of this that Lenore asks him to protect her father’s grave, but she doesn’t know that this bonekeeper with unrecognisable looks is someone she once knew very well.

I was honestly surprised at just how much Grace Draven managed to squeeze into this little novella. The story seemed to get increasingly richer with each chapter. The writing itself was easy to digest, and although sometimes I felt a bit bogged down by the unfamiliar airship and mechanical terms, they didn’t overload the story and it was easy to parse out their meanings from the context of the situation. The characters themselves felt real enough to root for and although the main cast was limited to a certain few, those same few were certainly colourful individuals.

Overall, it was reading a slightly creepy, very romantic, but definitely fun introduction to a fascinating world, and a satisfying introduction to Grace Draven's works.

My least favourite book by Grace Draven so far. It was still good but the characters didn't impact me as much.

Belated review:

this series is based on a really interesting premise (undead graveyard keeper romance) and is set in regency-ish era (but with magic, flying ships, and pirates).

It was interesting but also kinda strange. We'll see what the sequel eventually brings.
