Very well written book about a daughter’s quest to show appreciation to her mother. I enjoyed the problem solving and persistent nature of Azaleah.

Children's First Chapter Book.  Azaleah Lane is a young Black girl that lives with her parents and two sisters.  When her parents go out of town to a food-truck festival, the three sisters get to stay with Auntie Sam, who lives in the Foggy Bottom area of DC.  They love sleeping over in her apartment, where they all get to sleep in the living room in sleeping bags.  Azaleah is determined to bake cookies for her parent's return, because Mama always talks about how preparing food for someone is a gift of love.  But the first two batches are not quite right, and they almost run out of time and ingredients before a successful third batch.  In between Azaleah figuring out what happened with the first two batches, the girls also get to attend a ballet at the Kennedy Center.  A fun realistic mystery about family bonds and determination. Includes a chocolate chip cookie recipe, glossary, and discussion questions in the back matter.  This book is listed as #3 in a series, but I had no issue picking it up on its own.
