This book irritated me constantly in the self flagellating way it was written. Though the story itself might have been entertaining the metaphors it smacked me over the head with were too on the nose and the language outdated.

Read this on recommendation of a friend. I read an edition that had modern language. This was much easier than when I originally tried to read an original edition. Bunyan is as on target today with the human condition, sin, and choices as he was in 1670. I guess that is really a sad commentary on our ability to live our lives as Jesus demonstrated for us. Thankful for Grace

One of the greatest books ever written.

Absolute favorite book as a child. I remember once I set out to write a revised version--the exact same events but in modern English. So many good Biblical truths woven into this story, and while it may be a little heavy-handed with the allegory, I think that's the point. A true classic, and worthy of its position of second-best-seller of all time (after the Bible).

Not for me. Just read for it’s place in Little Women.

Mandatory reading for any classic completist. The metaphor is strong in this one, and Bunyan continually apologizes for it. He was working without precedent and under interminable conditions, so perhaps he needn't apologize so much!

I took pleasure in reading this metaphorical novel. The whole idea that this book is centered around is the fact that the pilgrims never lost hope or faith in their Lord and kept to Scripture during the tough times. This book has showed me how the pilgrims were diligent and persistent to get to the Celestial City. I think anyone who agrees with John Bunyan’s teachings would appreciate taking some time to enjoy The Pilgrim’s Progress.
