I thought I could deal with the trite, formulaic pattern but it ended up annoying more than entertaining me. Apparently I no longer enjoy the rom-com type novel for escapism like I used to - it just makes me mad now. Not the author's fault to be fair though, this is my own personal hang up and not something I enjoy. The storytelling aspect was decent and the subject matter was mildly culturally relevant (I would have preferred the story more if it focused on the race and education issues rather than the romance).

Another very well written romance by a fantastic author. I’ve read three books in this series now, and the first one is still by FAR my favorite, but I liked the premise of this one — I felt I could relate to a career-oriented older couple who don’t have kids and haven’t been married. I also liked that the characters were a bit older, in their late 30s. So refreshing.

Overall, I liked the story, but it took me a month to get through it because it didn’t grab me like the first book did. I loved all the characters, and the plot was cute, and I didn’t get annoyed at them or their decisions (probably due to their maturity, which I loved), but I got a bit…bored? The book wasn’t boring, but I found myself less excited to read the story as it went on. I guess it was kind of predictable, which can be nice sometimes! Maybe it’s just not what I’m looking for right now? I’m certain I’d enjoy it more in a different phase of my life.

All in all, a lovely story. Olivia Monroe is boss babe goals, we love to see it!
