This is one of those cases where I think the episode was better than the book.

While Elizabeth Rees did a good job in the book adaptation, this book felt rather weak and rushed to me, while the first two books were not rushed and took a bit of time with the narrative. There were several things added to the story in this book, such as Fi's final confrontation about what Claire was missing out on, as they went through the House of Mirrors. I thought that was well done, talking about reality, because of her obsession with astral projecting out of her body was getting in the way of enjoying her life.

If it were me writing this book, I would want to know more about Claire's family life, in the way the first book in the series handled the story (So Weird, #1: Family Reunion). In the first book, which was also the pilot for the show, there were chapters dedicated to learning more about the ghost boy and the events that led up to the drowning. Now, this book could have improved greatly had Rees showed what was going on in Claire's personal life in short chapters to motivate her to astral project in the first place. So much could have been explored, and so much potential seemed to have been deliberately missed, which is why I give this book 3/5.
