Excellent coverage and description of the tomato in American life and culture.  It even has tomatoes around the world, but uses these to describe life in America.

I liked the content of this book (except for the last chapter). The author, however, was pompous and annoying. The type of guy that goes to Spain once and then calls it “Barthelona”

An entertaining account of the way tomatoes have been grown and eaten throughout the world since their introduction to Europe. Alexander isn’t always quite as funny as he thinks he is, but the lighthearted tone nevertheless keeps the book moving forward easily. A little bit of history, a little bit of culture, some humor, a bit of travelogue - yes, it’s a recipe for a pretty good book.
