Rose Yates returns home to Bury, NH after 20 years away. Her husband, Riley, has died, and she and her young son, Max, head from WI to NH to move in with her father. Rose is a novelist of murder mysteries. Colin, a detective in WI doesn't believe that Rose is innocent in the death of Riley, so he continues to investigate. When he sees similarities in the death of her husband to her novels, his suspicion iincreases.
In her latest novel, she writes about another crime, which alarms her sister, Cora, and her father, wealthy Logan Yates. They notice similarities to a missing person from 20 years ago.
Colin tracks Rose to NH and confronts her, forcing her to tell the truth about the various mysteries.
The ending leaves open the possibility of a sequel.
This is my first book by this author, I will look for more. It was a good mystery, but a bit gruesome at times.

The plot had potential but the execution fell flat. The progression didn’t flow well and the characters were not deeply developed and bland. I guessed the twist pretty quickly into the story so that left the climax of the story disappointing. The writing itself was well done but it felt like the story kept circling around and never went anywhere.

I feel there was a lot of potential, but unfortunately fell a bit short. Some of the conclusions the Detective came to seemed a bit unrealistic to me (though, perhaps he was just very intuitive!) and the story wrapped up a little too quickly in my opinion.

This book held my interest and sucked me in. Kind of predictable but great, fun read.
Rose returns home - she left after high school and swore to never return. After the sudden death of her husband, Rose packs up her and her son, Max and leaves Wisconsin.
And the memories flood back. One night, when Rose was 15 changed her life. Tied her father, sister and Rose together.
Colin, a Milwaukee cop, can't dismiss Riley's death as accidental overdose. Especially after reading one of Rose's books.
Good read.

There are unlikable characters in books that you eagerly devour because you want to see if karma deals to them. There are also unlikeable character in stories that you don't connect with & you don't care what happens to them. For me, this was a case of the latter. I didn't care about anyone in this story, including supporting characters. I felt that the story was disjointed, and could have been cut down a lot.

I haven’t read a mystery/thriller in so long and I already feel myself slipping down the rabbit hole. Time to read 20 in a row until I can no longer sleep and have to switch back to lighter books!

I felt like the ending was dragged other than that I really enjoyed this book.

The Dead Husband is a twisted story of family and murder. Carter Wilson can certainly write a violent story and I really enjoyed it for the most part. Animal cruelty/death is something that really puts me off and that part of the storyline was hard to digest.

Rose and her young son return to Rose's childhood home of Bury after the apparent suicide of her husband. She never wanted to go back after her hellish upbringing, that she would rather not remember. But being back brings it all to the front again. She is now a published crime writer and Colin, a detective in on the case, believing that Rose had something to do with her husbands death, especially after how one of her characters dies.

Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for granting my wish on Netgalley for this book.
