This was a very good good, very depressing read. There's some interesting history about how people in Darwin's time thought about extinction but overall it's a portrait of how humans are destroying flora and fauna, cutting off vital routes for entire ecosystems and introducing so many invasive species that eventually things will be somewhat homogeneous across the globe. Probably there's an imperial culture joke in there somewhere.
There isn't much in the way of hope or solutions, but I can't fault the author for that.
