Totally loving this series! The tension definitely cranked up in this installment and kept me on my toes. I kinda wish Diem had made one decision quicker than she did, but overall I loved everything about this book.

Brilliant sequel and couldn’t wait to find out where this next instalment was going to take us. I liked that several elements of the story sere unexpected / didn’t follow typical tropes we usually see. That being said, the romance subplot felt a little too drawn out in this one - I understood why but I think it could have been revealed a little quicker. Overall the tension and the pining was so good, the emotions were everywhere with this book! Enjoyed the mix of politics and battle and character development among the romance. I felt Diem was a little more annoying in this book but I couldn’t really blame her. Luther and all the side characters were brilliant though. So well written and some twists at the end I didn’t see coming!!

*This review is written without spoilers. If it isn’t descriptive enough it’s because I’m trying to avoid giving away the first book and this book*
Diem is forced into a new role that puts her face-to-face with not only the Descendend but also with the many secrets being kept from her. After spending time in Lumnos City with the Descended of the House of Corbois, Diem starts to realize that not all Descended are the spoiled, evil snobs she has been raised to believe. Over the course of the book new alliances and friendships are made while old relationships are tested to the brink of breaking. Diem must split herself between the mortals she grew up with and the Descended she is now bound to. She is not only tested mentally but faces a life-threatening challenge that if she wins, will change her life forever.
The slow burn, enemies-to-lovers in this book is FULL of witty, snarky, flirty banter that is so reminiscent of both Feyre & Rhys from ACOTAR and Violet & Xaden from Fourth Wing. The writing and plot twists are really good and I found myself crying multiple times over the course of my reading! I’m officially half-way through this 4 book fantasy series and I can’t wait to start Book 3!

This series is ticking my fantasy boxes, and I'm having a great time! Book #2 is a great sequel, moving the central conflict forward, answering important questions, and asking new ones. The development of Diem's relationships with the Descended and her mortal friends and family was fantastic, their conflicts realistic and the court scheming so juicy. Love it.
