This is classic historical romance at its most middling: the hero is horrible, the heroine is horrible, the situations they're put in are ridiculously over the top, and of course there's more than one rape plot going on. Historically accurate it most certainly is not, but I picked dit up to see how classic romances treated this time period instead of regency. It was an entertaining, quick to get through read, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The only plus side to this is that Drake doesn't treat the Islamic characters as badly as a lot of books set in this era. She does try and be historically accurate with the distrust and language the English/French characters use towards them, though.
