This was actually a really interesting read. Read like a haunted house journalistic re-telling. Very different from the movies and I think much better. I approached the story like it was fiction and wasn’t looking for believability. Enjoyed the different point of views throughout the book and didn’t take anything too seriously.
SpoilerThe dog is okay in the end!

This would’ve been a fun one to read around Halloween.

Whether or not the story is true, I enjoyed it. However, the writing style was pretty cringe worthy. His use of exclamations marks was so over the top and did not fit the theme of the book whatsoever.

Classic

I finally read this alleged classic this year, and frankly, I don't get it. I mean it's written competently, but like the original film, I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I was in grade school when this book and the movie of it came out, and even as a kid I thought it was bullshit. Granted, the books is far and away better than the movie. The movie was back in the day and still is crap, as was its remake with Ryan Reynolds. -- My problem with the book is that it takes itself so seriously, and it's apparent even in the writing style. I know it's supposed to have been a true story, and I reckon that's why it's written the way it is. Again, it's competently written. It's just not even a good, much less convincing story. The literary and film apings of it over the years have often been superior to it.
