The Amityville Horror

BOOOOOOOOOO

Probably the best horror book I've ever read. I was cowering in my chair

I give it two stars because the beginning was promising. However, after a while, it became very repetitive, boring and predictable (I’m talking about those priest scenes in particular). The idea of an actual real family fleeing their dream house because of a sequence of ‘odd’ events can be unsettling, but it wears you out after a while. The fact that you know how the story ends doesn’t really help. You can also tell it belongs to a different time, when people got scared more easily.

if you’ve seen the movie then you’ve read the book.
i personally think the movie is a more effective way to make you feel the fear.

as a non believe it was an interesting read. was this collective mania? schizophrenia running through the bloodline? some sort of placebo effect of terror knowing tragedies happened where you live? what happened to the kids when they grew up? did they ever speak on this again?

my biggest surprise though was that it’s set in LONG ISLAND?? couldn’t get over that.

You can choose to believe it or not. It’s a fun ride either way.

Scared the pants off me. Better than the movie, of course, but the original movie based on the book was really good.
