This is your next read. Young love, mystery, adventure and masterful weaving in of tradition beliefs and language of indigenous peoples makes this book a must read. The ending was masterful.

Wow. It's been a while since I finished a book at all. I bought this in January on a whim because I wanted something to read while at cafes. But, life is what it is and after a few chapters I left it on my shelf. It ended up just sitting for a while, cursed like most of the unread books on my shelf. But it being the only actual book I had while I was away from home, I got back to it, and I'm so glad I did.

I have never had my jaw drop so consistently while reading a book. You think you know what's going on, might think 'oh, I've seen this before, I know what's gonna happen', only to then be completely dumbfounded three pages later.

I'm not a crier when it comes to books, but this seems to be the exception. It shocked me a bit how much small things made me tear up. The main character is wonderful. Everything is felt with Daunis as she experiences it, I felt genuinely connected to her. She feels real, and leaving this book is like leaving a friend.

The book is filled with culture which is absolutely beautiful, and not once did I feel like I was missing out on something. Everything is explained to the reader in a completely natural way.

If you're thinking of reading this, or if you're like me and the pages felt a little slow in the beginning, please keep reading. This book has made me want to read again. It's incredibly worth it.

This book was very good.

I love reading books by Native authors, and I thought this one was especially well done in how it addressed current native issues including drug abuse and violence against women.

Slow getting into it, but the exposition was absolutely worth it. Since I'm not familiar with Indigenous cultures, having all those details including made for a much richer and impactful experience.
