I want to finish reading all of the volumes of this work before I review it in its entirety, but I can say with certainty now that it has piqued my interest in Steve Rogers's storyline. If you are like me and watched the movies before getting into reading comics/graphic novels, then you might have found yourself enjoying the depth to Rogers as a character in the films. Well, there is even more of that in the the Winter Soldier plot (so far). A lot of it has to do with his past that is not explicitly revealed in the film, and is possibly critical to how the plot unfolds in the graphic novel, so I won't spoil anything. But, rest assured, there are many places and times to travel in even just this first volume before we begin to understand the profundity and range of this story.

Great intro to many characters from Captain America. Great start of the Winter Soldier story. As a first-time Captain America reader I really liked the story, the art, and will continue reading Volume 2!

I've never been much of a Call reader but love Brubaker. Put this off for too long and it absolutely delivers.

I hadn’t read this since probably high school, but Cap is my all time favorite superhero and the movie is my favorite in the MCU. But the comic book holds up after so many years, and I forgot how amazing this story is with its differences to the movie. The reveal is obviously not a surprise to anyone that knows literally anything about Marvel, but this comic is about so much more than that. Following Steve through his history with Bucky, the Red Skull, and Zemo was fantastic, those interludes are almost as good as the main story. A must read for any Marvel fan.

This was excellent. Wish I had read this before watching the movie, which spoiled this for me. Just great.

I wish I would have read this book as it came out... The twist within this story is nothing short of brilliant! One of those stories I wish I wasn't spoiled before actually reading. However, I must say, the spoiler of the Winter Soldier's identity did not, in any way, take from the pleasure of reading this amazing piece.
