"I shut my eyes and she was again the same as she used to be: she was the hiss of steam, the clink of a cup, she was a certain hour of the night and the promise of rest."

A really great book, with writing that compels a re-read, atmospheric and thoughtful and with larger-than-life characters.

Amazing. Melancholic. Feels like a narrative. A great American novel.

Superb, fantastic plot and characters. My first Graham Greene novel and not my last.

A short but enjoyable read. Hoping that Our Man in Havana is as good.
